Meet The Bloggers of The Conversation

Updated: Feb 8, 2022

Hello, my name is Shannon.

Born under a dark cloud riddled with crime and pain, all signs pointed to a life of poverty and unfulfilled dreams. Somehow, without much guidance, I managed to go from MLK elementary school to law school. My narrow path was filled with confusion, struggles, pain, and abuse. However, I pressed forward as if my life depended on it because quite literally it did.

Through this blog, I invite you on a journey as I document my life as a child victim of predators, to the woman I’m becoming today. You will laugh, you will cry and at times you will be angry as hell. Just remember, I’m better than okay. I didn’t break. I’m still here to tell my unadulterated truth and I sincerely thank you for joining, The Conversation.

Kayla understands what it’s like to experience trauma and having a difficult time knowing how to heal. She definitely understands the feeling of having that “difficult conversation.”

Outside of her professional role as a Social Worker, her ultimate goal has always been to advocate for those who felt they didn’t have a voice. Although she had the support of her mother, growing up in a single-parent household wasn’t easy and it caused emotional struggles that not even her mother could help with.

Kayla hopes that along-side her mother, through The Conversation, she is able to provide a safe space where others can begin their journey toward real Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness through sharing their stories as well.
