Joe, the red dragon.

Mother told me of an image she saw. She said there were two dragons, one was large, red with black spots and the other was white with black spots. The red dragon was intent on harming the small children that were standing behind the white dragon. The red dragon would regularly release hellish fire from its mouth to put fear in them. In the end, the red dragon would overpower the white, consuming it and the children. She told me she immediately knew the children were hers, and said, “I knew this harm was coming, I saw it. I also knew I was the white dragon, but at that time, I was still one of the dragons and I didn’t know my way out.”

Mother’s brick house beauty kept a man around, either for validation or for money. Joe, for a while, fed both sides of her ego. She knew him and the lifestyle he lived, so she understood that nothing would be free. What she didn’t know was the price her children would have to pay.

At night Joe would get mother so high she would pass out; he needed her out of the way. Each night he would take one of her children to the basement and rape them. Others he would beat until blood clots could be seen through their skin. Once he put one of my brothers in scolding hot water causing burns all over his body. Their screams were never heard. No one was coming to help.

For nearly three years the dragon terrorized our home. He threatened my older siblings by saying “if you ever tell, I’ll kill you and your mother.” He’d come so close to doing just that, we had no reason to doubt his threats. Besides, in our world, police came for drugs, not children.
